Today, the Cedars at the JCA is one of the leading rehabilitation and geriatric-care centers in the United States.

A teaching nursing home, research site, and community resource center, the Cedars is committed to providing a full spectrum of care to meet the changing needs of the elderly.

When a member of your family needs assistance or round-the-clock care, he or she usually needs it immediately. At the Cedars at the JCA, residents are admitted 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Transportation from area hospitals is provided for all patients, including those in need of rehabilitation.

Whether your loved one is coming directly from a hospital or from home, the Cedars makes the admission process as easy and convenient as possible. We gather all necessary information, fill out required paperwork, and even do on-site assessments to determine the most appropriate level of care needed.

We invite residents and visitors to sample our gourmet food as our guests for lunch or dinner; we conduct tours of all or any part of our facility; and we help new residents select their rooms from various floor plans and locations in our buildings.

For a complimentary lunch and tour please call 314-991-1193 or email info@cedarsjca.com.

The four buildings that make up the Cedars at the JCA campus are:

  • Hillside (Residential Care ll and Skilled Nursing Care)
  • Meadowview (Medical Rehabilitation, Skilled Nursing and Dementia/Alzheimer's)
  • Arborview (Orthopedic Rehabilitation, Multi-Specialty, and Skilled Nursing)
  • The Plaza (all administrative functions, community activities and Adult Day Services).

We know this is often a dramatic change of lifestyle for our residents. That's why, before they arrive and once they are settled in their neighborhoods and rooms, we make every effort to ease their transition process and help them feel at home.

Managing the complex finances of a skilled nursing facility and dealing with insurance companies, Medicare and Medicaid, managed care, private billing, payroll, accounts receivable, and accounts payable, is not for the faint of heart. But the Cedars at the JCA has a team of professional accountants and financial experts who make it transparent and understandable.

Money is always an issue when you are seeking the best possible care for a parent or other loved one, but we believe that cost should not be an obstacle to that care. Since the Cedars is a not-for-profit organization, funds go directly to improving care, rather than to the "bottom line."

So, if you are concerned about high fees, hidden costs, or having to "buy in" to the facility, set those worries aside. The Cedars competes favorably with the best long-term care facilities in the St. Louis metropolitan area.

There are no hidden costs. Our daily rate is "all inclusive." That means the daily fee covers medical and nursing care, housekeeping, laundry, linens, meals, and medical supplies. The only things it does not cover are medications, cable and telephone service. That makes it possible for you to plan ahead for expenses without fear of add-ons or surprises on your monthly bill.

And, finally, unlike many facilities, there is no "buy in" to the property. All that is required to move in is a deposit equal to two months' fees, one of which covers the first month of residence.

Providing excellent care at reasonable cost requires a fine medical staff, professional and caring service providers, and an efficient administrative staff. The Cedars is fortunate to have all three.

The nursing staff at the Cedars at the JCA prides itself on providing "five star care for a five star facility."

Our Director of Nursing (DON) has many years' experience managing skilled nursing facilities. The DON oversees a staff of approximately 250 employees, including registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), certified nurses' aids (CNAs), certified medical technicians (CMTs), and ward clerks.

With an average nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:7, the nursing staff serves residents in the assisted living, skilled nursing, rehabilitation and Alzheimer's' units.

Nursing services include:

  • Airway Management
  • Dysphasia Management
  • IV Therapy
  • Oncology
  • Pain Management
  • Peritoneal Dialysis
  • Respiratory Therapy (PTN)
  • Surgical Rehabilitation
  • Total Parenteral Nutrition
  • Wound Management

  • The Cedars at the JCA is a facility of choice, where residents can choose between kosher or non-kosher meals.

There are seven resident dining rooms throughout the building, one of which is strictly kosher.

Our kosher meals are prepared in a special kosher kitchen, in strict adherence with kosher laws, and served by waiters in the kosher dining room. We are the only facility in the state of Missouri that has an on-site kosher kitchen.

A second kitchen prepares non-Kosher meals, which is served in the six neighborhood dining rooms.

Residents may also choose to have their meals brought directly to their rooms.

In addition to meeting special dietary needs, the Cedars offers alternative selections on our prepared menu, which is changed daily.

Everything about the Cedars at the JCA is "state of the art," including the behind-the-scenes technology that keeps communication flowing smoothly among medical and service staff and residents.

The Information Technology (IT) department coordinates a host of services, including Channel 10, an internal channel for residents; the Intranet, a communication and information network for staff; resident and staff cable and phone systems; this web site; and a desktop publishing function that creates presentations, business cards, and other marketing materials.

Channel 10, which contains a wealth of information for residents and their families, is updated monthly or more often if necessary. Eventually, Channel 10 will feature ball games, movies, and other major events that can be viewed on TV sets in residents' rooms, neighborhood great rooms, or on the large pull-down screen in the Grand Symposium.

Our suites and all rooms in the Hillside neighborhood are currently wired for high-speed Internet access. As a courtesy to our guests, free Internet access is available at one of our four resident work stations.

Currently, residents can easily access information on:

    • Activity calendars
    • Barber & beauty shop schedules and prices
    • Contact information for staff and services
    • Dining room hours
    • Explanations of care and services
    • Grievance procedures
    • History of the JCA
    • Hotlines
    • Insurance information
    • Mission statement
    • Religious section
    • Upcoming holidays
    • Schedule of services
    • Special observances

For those residents who elect to have their personal laundry done by the Cedar's staff, laundry is picked up from their rooms and returned folded or hung within 48 hours.

This service is included in the daily rate.
