ALZHEIMER'S PROGRAMS
When a loved one is diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease or advancing dementia, it is only natural that you would feel worried and uncertain. There are so many questions to be answered. As you research long-term care facilities, if you envision your parent or grandparent sitting in a hallway, staring into space and alone, forget those images.

Trained Alzheimer's staff members develop a personalized program for each patient and alter it as conditions change. Activity zones help maintain current levels of function for as long as possible. There are supervised activities in a stimulating environment, interaction among residents, and even guided outings into the community. Shopping at local stores and visiting interesting places helps stimulate long-forgotten memories and enhance thinking skills.

People of all ages need sensory stimulation. Lotion and aromatherapy help calm patients and care for their skin when they are unsettled or anxious. Cooking therapy encourages residents to re-experience the joy of preparing food.

Mealtimes are directly supervised by a registered dietitian and are simple and staggered to accommodate the special eating patterns of people with dementia.

You are invited to visit often and participate in some of our special events.
Nobody understands your loved ones' needs or history better than you do. When you are relieved of the stresses of caring for your family member, you can once again enjoy the special time you share with them.

The Helping Hands Program, which provides temporary care of those with Alzheimer's Disease or related dementia, allows exhausted family members and caregivers to take a much needed break to rest and re-energize themselves. While this is not a permanent placement, residents are welcome to stay 15-30 days. When they return home, you will be given a comprehensive care plan to assist you in taking care of your loved one.

As part of the admission process, the Cedars at the JCA sends out a specially trained nurse to evaluate the needs of every potential patient.
